Did Abit lose about $12 million dollars on the NF7? Yes.
but
they have a customer base that makes the other performance boards all fight for a distant second place. Anytime you make something like the NF7 or IC7 boards, you will have a big percentage of failures until you get it all right. How many revisions is NF7 on now? 3? 4? They've finally worked out most of hte problems...but what is the major complaint? That they dont overclock worth a crap now.
is this what you want? you want a board that doesnt overclock and doesn't perform as well as older versions? Do you not realize that making a board that does all the things teh LP/INF/NF7/A7N boards do, you are going to have a lot of issues from customers trying their best to kill them?
lets put it this way...you buy a Ford Taurus, do you drag race with it, burn out your tires to impress your friends, do 140mph on the highway with it?
no
but you buy a Mustang or Corvette. You impress your friends by how fast it is, burning out your tires, racing, basically pushing it as hard as it will go.
and how often will your awesome car be in the shop or be getting tweaked vs that Ford Taurus?
there's your answer.
I've seen a lot of good recommendations here. But I also still see the same mob mentality in a few things, and I see a few of you not being realistic at all, living in fantasy land.
You want the top performing equipment, you are going to have some issues with it. Remember you want a rig that performs above specs. This alone creates issues.
why do you think no motherboard mfg will guarantee any overclock?
