Storm 3 is on the horizon for RIM

Will offer a trackpad as part of the design
RIM is apparently hard at work on the Storm 3, according to reports that we are hearing from sources close to the company. The Storm 3 will be the third generation offering in the Storm family and the first to feature a unique addition, which is the BlackBerry optical trackpad that RIM has used on other products with much success.

The addition of a trackpad to the Storm 3 might be a bit puzzling, as the 3.7-inch screen is said to use a touch screen design (which would indicate some redundancy by adding a trackpad, as well). The device is said to be running OS 6 with a faster processor and will feature 8GB of onboard flash memory in addition to the micoSDHC card slot. The device will feature Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity with Wi-Fi hotspot support.

No details on when we might see the Storm 3 arrive, but it is suspected that in order to compete with all of the recently released Android models, RIM is anxious to get the Storm 3 out the door. We say that you should expect it sooner than later, but not till late this year or early next year. No word yet on which carriers might be on board for the Storm 3 yet.
