Frame rate issues hurt F1 2010 on PC

Console version clearly better at this point
With the release of F1 2010 from Codemasters, it marked the return of a true licensed F1 racing title on the PC platform. Hope have been high that the PC version would be able to live up to the console version, but apparently it is getting stalled in the pits by some frame rate issues.

If you are playing the game on some of the very graphically intense tracks or situations, you might encounter some frame rate slowdowns, no matter which video card you are using, and it happens at most of the higher resolutions. Due the fact that we didn’t see these issues with Dirt 2, we suspect that the problem is fixable and will continue to be ironed out by the studio as they have time to work on it.

Beyond the frame rate issues, the game needs more flexibility and additional support for replays. In fact, we think that this could be implemented a lot better than it currently is on the PC version because of the extra resources that the PC has over the console. Some have reported the save times on the PC version to be a bit slow, but we really didn’t see much of a slowdown ourselves.

While the PC version clearly does look much better at the higher resolutions than the console version, we will still give the nod to the console version at this time for purchase over the PC version if you are trying to choose between the two. With Codemasters’ track record on the PC, however, we expect them to address a good number of these issues in upcoming patches of the PC version, which could lead eventually to the PC version catching up with the console version.
