This Board is from hell; Asus P5nt ws!! The best ever own

Well, the highly expected Asus WorkStation Board, Asus P5NT WS has been here How it would performe? I have it in hand and read to rock , I will put my golden x6800 and qx6700 in it and see its performance.

Before that, let's check out this board' content;)

First, this board is looking very mild feeling box and good PCB layout IMHO;)

what would be the next..haha, I will post the mod of this board later on, meanwhile I am working on installation for x6800 first and check out the basic performance . and will post BIOS key points later.

so what about bios?
actually the bios is very similar to all the Asus nv 6xx board, but unfortunately , there is a very inconvenience is that we can not find the voltage monitor beside only
Vcore of CPU. other than that , no information at all. This means you can 't have user friendly interface of monitor program can check every elements.
let see the BIOS.
the one showing here is 0305 , the only one released bios version.:)

why I show the pic below? cuz I betall you guys never do this , this is the most important step for NV6xxi board; without this "action", I don't think you will have unsmooth ram-system related problem.

ok, reboot and then what we see now is the full screen boot up.:)

directly look at the Advance setting area. This P5NT WS board is really on the good policy huh?
all the voltage option are not that crazy as P5n32e sli or even striker. but you know what? the stability and overclockibility is way win over other board. win a lot.

If you have unlocked multipler CPU , like x6800, you have 50x ;)

ok, here we go, here is the Dram timings settings. you can see how I set this huh?
I guaranteed you can set as tight as I did for this screen shot as long as you have the ram like D9 IC on that.

or if you are more love safer timings...

see here is the system voltage and everything monitor from the on board IC.

when I set vcore 1.45 and here is 1.39v after reboot and back to here; but later you will know, 1.39v is really awesome enough to let me bench ..whichI never had my x6800 can do 3.6g for bench everything under 1.45v.. holy smoke.

holy moly, this is way unbelivable ...check out that vcore and setting on this bandwidth...

how about some e6600?...1.35v 9x400....
spi 32m, vdimm....2.4v for

running...:D

Will this motherboard work better than Striker 680I?

According to the record made by many powerusers，the speed run on NV chip
still slower than Intel P965.

So I am looking foward to seeing Asus RD write the outstanding Bios to let
this MB work on high freqency for the Q6000 series Family~

Finally，may I ask one question，if I want to overclock Q6600，which MB do you
recommend?? ASUS P5NT WS, P5W64, P5WDG2-WS PRO,STRIKER 680I,or
commando ROG? Or other amazing MB?

ok, I think this motherboard is way better than other Asus board (NV6xx) for sure due to its compatibility. I also figured it out about the voltages usage in OC for this board is not that overdose. for instance, when you need higher fsb under striker extreme, you need the higher VTT(CPU fsb volt), but in this board, you don't have to get vtt higher than it should be. that would greatly avoid damage your device like board or CPU.


About the quad core problem, that's nothing to do with this board, that's because the GTL reference voltage for quadcore is totally not properly implment. so that's why some people are already mod their board into the fairly proper GTL reference voltage to support Quadcore CPU go higher frequency such as EVGA A1 or T1 version NV reference boarde have been re;layout their old nv680i board.

unless you are confident that you can mod the board good, and you can handle the difficulty about difference between you switch dual core and quad core on the same board you own, otherwise, do not run quad core on this board to be struggle.

lol, did you check currently the World Record super pi 32m and Kingpin's old super pi 32m?yes, from the general case, it 's the way it should be, but no certain;)
when you get ddr1200 4-3-3, trc=1, trfc=21, trrd=1 compare with 965...
I bet 965 would lose way more than NV6

thx~but I think it is not easy to run on ddr1200 4-3-3,trc=1 for general people, if
my goal is to let Q6600 oc 3.6g & ddr800 4-4-4-5,which MB is the best choice?

And for 680I v.s. P965 v.s 975X,which can provide the best stability and most
efficiency I/O transport rate for our heavy loading program?

As everyone mighr be aware of the fact that the rate in terms of i/o transferring data ; nv680i has been eliminated IMHO due to NV's pain on the ass---> South bridge, MCP. Then the rest of two you mentioned, 965 vs. 975, I think, they are on the same page if you are talking about performance; yet, if you really want them to show the depth of their inside bones, then ICH8R certainly is the best bang for sure without losing legendary architecher. Anyway, for the " heavy loading program running" as you said, it might be considered as system ability of multi-tasking processing procedure. That would just verify what your choice is, the multi-cores processor.;)
