Oh ya, this is what all I can think about how every situation
when I tune up my ram timings by using a64tweaker from I got the DFI nf4board and a64tweaker 05.beta to 0.6 beta.
For those who are just new to this, some settinngs can NOT just set under the bios,
It will cause either bosd or lock up during boot up to windows; consequently, I always set some parameters as auto
then wait until boot into windows then use a64 tweakers to tune it more.
Now for the illustrations below, I will go up to DDR630 (315fdb, 1:1) and do as I can for step by step on those
important timings.

now I will use TCCD ram
I will set 292x11, 2.6v+0.03v(bios)
you guys can see the red retangle first!
the left hand side is what the so-called the heart of a64tweaker.
Those parameters are vital elements of your system ram settins, which are not so easy to understand
We gotta see the examples to catch that real performance.

Here you go:

a64tw01.jpg

Now let's see the first red retangle on the left side first:

TRC & TRFC; they are really important and rely on what 's the type of IC you are using.
For TRC: ..A64tweake's value range are 7~22..
7 and 8 are the fastest setting there, I rarely use the value after 8

TRFC? It's fastest setting is about 12~14, for TCCD, you don't expect you can set 12 if your ram fsb over 250mhz
if you have really good TCCD IC like FF, you still can set it about 13, or 14 untill you hit 315.

I will recommand you guys start from 8/14
*************************************************************************
second red-retangle:
TWR,TWTR,,TRTW,TREF..
Most likely they are "bandwidth related"
TWR options only got 2 or 3..We usually set it as 2
TWTR normally can set as low as 1 ; that's fairly aggresive setting..
TRTW: It's a bit tricky here, for me, I always set 2 or 3; setting after 3 is for stability purpose.

so the most aggresive is set to 2-1-2;

**************************************************************************
How about the TREF? I personally will say this is by far the most tricky setting for the ram under a64 platform.
below is the table for Tref, you will see every frequency match, will have 2 set of 4 digis numbers. The higher number is, then more stable would be.

TREF under DFI NF4 series bios

1552= 100mhz(15.6us)
2064= 133mhz(15.6us)
2592= 166mhz(15.6us)
3120= 200mhz(15.6us)
---------------------
3632= 100mhz(7.8us)
4128= 133mhz(7.8us)
4672= 166mhz(7.8us)
0064= 200mhz(7.8us)
---------------------
0776= 100mhz(3.9us)
1032= 133mhz(3.9us)
1296= 166mhz(3.9us)
1560= 200mhz(3.9us)
---------------------
1816= 100mhz(1.95us)
2064= 133mhz(1.95us)
2336= 166mhz(1.95us)
0032= 200mhz(1.95us)
---------------------
0388= 100mhz(15.6us)
0516= 133mhz(15.6us)
0648= 166mhz(15.6us)
0780= 200mhz(15.6us)
---------------------
0908= 100mhz(7.8us)
1032= 133mhz(7.8us)
1168= 166mhz(7.8us)
0016= 200mhz(7.8us)
---------------------
1536= 100mhz(3.9us)
2048= 133mhz(3.9us)
2560= 166mhz(3.9us)
3072= 200mhz(3.9us)
---------------------
3684= 100mhz(1.95us)
4196= 133mhz(1.95us)
4708= 166mhz(1.95us)
0128= 200mhz(1.95us)

For me, I use 133, 1.95 us OR 166, 1.95 us for my stable setting; 100, 1.95us for aggresive setting.

**********************************************

Now let's check Max Async Latency and idle cycle limit
That 's what I was talking about earlier..not set specific values under bios
that's why Oskar set a new option called " responding timing"
In general,250~270mhz I can set 5ns~6ns..
after270mhz, I will set 7ns (270~295mhz)
above 300mhz, you gotta set it to 8ns.

How about Read preamble ? haha, it really depends on the ram,
I usually set very tigh timing about 4ns~5.5ns

ICL(idle cycle limit)? hard to say, sometimes you can set 0 all the way to running super pi 32m; but at the sametime, some one say it won't be stable at all when he set as 16 or 256.

***************************************************************************

Now how about those blue retangle?:
For me, those are not the 1st priority setting for ram, but they are still very important.

RWQB..it sure be 16x, and Bypass max as 7x..for big big benefit for running 3d bench.
For floating point calculation like super pi, then it's not that huge influence.

So, time to bring it on, by now, if you don't have a64tweaker, you can download it from OCX server.

OK, Time for real play now:
Let's from the so-call "normal ram like hynix D5 , D43 or other ICs

we all know those ram is not produced for crazy overclocking purpose, so how are we gonna tune it or just let it sit there stable enough?
For this, I try to set a table for those "normal ram to try.

vram7ib.jpg

In general, how far ram can go is what the setting of Cas Latency you set.
So in here, you might wanna try either 2.5 or 3, but I won't recommand you set CL value under windows.
Then the secondary factor is Max async latency
If you are using either TCCD or BH/CH/UTT ram, you certainly can have very tigh timing.
For the Max Async, I will definitely recommand you set auto underbios.

For the Tref, you can set the highest one--->4708 under bios.

**For the Dram strength and data strength, I will recommand set them auto/auto for the command ram (compatibity issue)
TCCD can set 8/2 , 8/auto OR 7/3

Bh/CH/utt seem like usually set 7/3 for the best setting.

***********************************************************************************************************
** Below is the real play, they 're all old benches, I will have update example post recently I did.
For TCCD:

Check it out for the super pi:

bandwidth:

a64tw03.jpg

Now let's see some examples above 300fsb, be aware of those red-retangle portions setting:

a64tw04.jpg

BW:
a64tw05.jpg

super pi., a bit difference here..see the Max async is set to 9ns?...(honestly this is too loose)
but TRTW is set to 2..:D
a64tw06.jpg

Well, same word, gotta take a rest, I will keep update!
To be contiuned for Part 3.
*****************************************************
10/4/2005 update
Here is 3 types roughly give you idea how to set the different type of rams.

1. In general ram:

lct.jpg

2. Mid class TCCD/ some CH type of UTT

mlt.jpg

3. Extremely high performance like type TCCD and UTT

One more example of DDR600 TCCD(GSkill FF running at very tight timings,
please compare with the 3rd table I post above.;)

Im looking 2x1GB setting,
but seem like you are going to DDR2 arena already, don't you ? :rolleyes:

now i have 2x1GB TeamXtreem DDR500 Micron (0608) in hand,
but hard to stable no matter memtest/superPI/Prime at only 260MHz, 3-3-3-8 :(:(:(
