Newegg selling Hitachi Deskstar 2TB 7200RPM drive for $89.99 shipped

Only $0.045 per gigabyte
Reports around the "Hot Deals" threads of many hardware forum communities on the Internet have been particularly active this afternoon in regards to Newegg's latest hard drive deals. Over the past twelve months, magnetic storage technologies have gradually decreased in price-per-gigabyte and capacities of 2TB and beyond have started to become attractive deals to many casual system builders. As of recent, Newegg is hosting a special on a Hitachi Deskstar 2TB H3IK20003272SP 7200RPM 3.5" SATA II drive for $129.99 with a $20 off coupon with code EMCYWNT35 and a $20 rebate card offer. This generous discount brings the price of the drive down to just $89.99 shipped, or in other words $0.045 per gigabyte.

Unfortunately, the drive does not support Advanced Format technology which replaces the traditional 512 byte hard drive sector with a 4 kilobyte hard drive sector. Use of this technology ultimately results in better formatting efficiency and more free space available to the user and perfectly matches the 4KB size of Windows filesystem clusters.

Nevertheless, we highly recommend the deal and view it more or less as an early Black Friday present to all those who are on the verge of requiring more storage space in their systems.

The deal ends on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 can be found here.
