HP rolls out new Envy 14 and Envy 17 3D

First official AMD based 3D notebook

HP has updated its Envy notebook series with two new models, the 14.5-inch Envy 14 Beats Editon and 17.3-inch Envy 17 3D featuring 3D Ultra BrightView display and AMD Mobility Radeon graphics to power it.

The 14.5-inch Envy 14 Beats Edition gets its name thanks to the Beats Audio technology and features Intel's Core i5-460M CPU paired up with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 graphics card. The rest of the specs include up to 8GB of memory, 640GB HDD, Gigabit LAN, 802.11bgn WiFi, red-backlit keyboard, HDMI output and an 8-cell battery. The Envy 14 BE starts at US $1,249.

The HP Envy 17 3D is quite interesting as we are talking about the first AMD based 3D notebook, something that we heard about but haven't seen 'till now. Some might argue that Nvidia is happily settled in 3D notebooks for quite some time, but bear in mind that we still haven't seen anything over 15 inches with an Nvidia sticker. (You never saw me naked? sub.ed.)

HP took a different path and Envy 17 3D packs a 17.3-inch 120Hz stereoscopic screen with full HD 1080p resolution. Of course, we are still talking about 3D with active shutter glasses that have to be charged from time to time, made by Xpan HD. As far as the specs go, the Envy 17 will feature Core i7 CPU, Mobility Radeon HD 5850 graphics, Blu-ray drive, up to 2TB of HDD space, HDMI and DisplayPort outputs.

For now, AMD and HP have put out a list of 200 games that will work with this bundle, but we are sure that we'll see more once this one becomes available. The Envy 17 3D should appear during this year holiday season and is expected to have a price of under US $2,000.
